Anne McClory. (R.I.P). Magheracloone G.F.C. lost one of its most loyal members and staunchest supporters last week with the untimely death of Anne McClory. Anne had a great interest in all community matters but was particularly supportive of her three children’s sporting endeavours. She was very proud of the successes achieved by her daughter, Joanne, and her twin sons, Ciaran and Sean and she could be seen standing on the side-line at every one of their games. Anne worked hard behind the scenes on behalf of the various juvenile teams to ensure that they had the best of sports gear and that they were properly fed at match-time. Anne, with her husband, John, was the club sponsor for a number of years through their company JMC Insulations and the club has benefitted at all levels from their generosity.
The club members extend sincere sympathy to the McClory family on their sad loss.
May she rest in peace.
Strictly Come Dancing. The dancers have now been paired off and the serious training has begun for the big night at Christmas. Tickets are now on sale for the major club fund-raiser of the year. Competition in the training room is intense at this early stage and is expected to get even more so as the weeks progress.
Coaching. Anyone interested in coaching from Under- 8 to Under-18 must have a minimum of the foundation coaching course completed. Those who have the foundation course completed should consider taking the Level One course. Ideally, one coach in each age category should have a Level One course completed. All those interested in attending a course please forward your name to Declan Farrelly (Club Coaching and Development Officer) at 087-2660143, or declan.farrelly@kerry.ie
Winter Sessions. The first juvenile winter strength and conditioning session took place last Friday evening. Piaras and Barry from Carrick Fitness Centre put the lads through their paces. There was a good turn out and it is hoped to build on this over the next couple of weeks. Next Friday’s session will be held in the Community Centre when the lads will be working on the benefits of flexibility, mobility and stability. Those born in 2000 to 2002 should attend from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. while those
born in the years 1997 to 1999 will have the session from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. Session will cost €3 per player.
Juvenile Academy. The club would like to thank Paul O’Connor from Monaghan coach and development for giving a presentation to parents on the benefits of the juvenile academy. Thank you to the parents who attended the presentation. Thanks to Nuala McConnon for providing the refreshments and to the ladies who helped her. There are three more Saturdays left before the Christmas break. A colouring competition has commenced in the schools.
Health and Well-Being Committee. Monaghan’s Health and Well-Being Committee was officially launched in Cloghan last week at a very well-attended meeting. Cathal Hand and his team are to be commended for the excellent work done to get this scheme up and running. The G.A.A. is recognising the role it has to play in preserving the health and promoting the well-being of its members and indeed the members of the wider community. More information on this timely initiative can be found on the monaghan.gaa website under the heading of Health and Well-Being.
