Statement from Magheracloone Mitchells GFC

Magheracloone GFC was deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the devastating subsidence that occurred on our club grounds on September 23rd/24th. Our pitches, car park, handball alley and Community Centre are now all closed indefinitely.

Thankfully nobody was injured during the incident and we are working closed with Saint-Gobain, the Gardaí and local authorities to ensure the health and safety of all our parishioners and Club members. Safety is of the utmost importance for us as a club. We urge the public to adhere to all safety instructions from the Club and other relevant authorities.

To lose our Club grounds is heartbreaking for everybody. We cater for all age groups from U6’s to Senior level and our Ladies club cater for girls from U10 level to senior. All teams have now been left without training facilities for the foreseeable future. We have also been left without training equipment, training gear and everything else necessary to run a GAA club. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our surrounding clubs who have offered us the use of their grounds and facilities. It is very much appreciated.

For now, we as a club will focus on planning for the future and we will ensure that our club will remain as strong as ever.

Our Seniors were unfortunately beaten by Scotstown last Sunday in the Championship semi-final. Our lads gave a great account of themselves but just came up short at the final whistle. Our next league match is against Scotstown and it will be played on Saturday, time and venue yet to be decided.

U9’s and U10’s

Our Juvenile committee ran a very successful U9 and U10 Tournament on Saturday morning last. We had teams from Carrick, Corduff, Emyvale, Drumgoon and Magheracloone take part. There were some excellent passages of play from all teams and each team had one player who was awarded Skills Player of their team. The Skills awards were picked by our senior players, John McMahon, Conor McKeown, Pete Ward and Gavin Doogan. The matches were refereed by Jack Doogan, Ryan McNulty, Eoghan Rooney and Jayme Lambe. Both Magheracloone teams came out trumps with our U10’s winning the Cup and the U9’s winning the Shield. It was a brilliant day for the Club. Many thanks to all who helped organise it, the parents for providing and helping with the refreshments and the Community Centre for providing the hall. Thank you also to O’Gormans Super Valu for sponsoring the fruit and juices. Thank you to our Ladies Club for having the shop open. A combined effort from so many people made it a tournament to remember and that’s what makes our club so great.

Our 9’s make the journey over to Mullagh on Saturday to take part in a challenge. This will be the last outing of the year for this group. The coaches will be in contact with further details.

U6 Academy

The U6 Academy due to start this Saturday has been postponed and we will be in touch with a new date.
